I grew up in Indian Ridge and Mobile. I had twins but lost both of them in my fifth month. I didn’t have kids after that. My mother doesn’t have legs right now. She is 96 and lives in a nursing home. I love my mother and went to see her today. I don’t want to get broken up about her. She taught me how to cook. I always wanted to have a restaurant. I lived in New York for 40 years, Long Island. I went up there for work and learned how to survive. I came home to take care of my stepdad until he passed on. He was a diabetic and I am one too. All of my life I have tried to keep my life on the right track. My mama told me if I got into trouble she wouldn’t get me out. So I stayed out of trouble. God takes care of all of us.”
