Nursing school is saving me and it gives me hope

November 8, 2016

“I am a nursing student and want to be a travel nurse and save lives. When kids were watching cartoons, I was watching ER. Nursing is what I have always wanted to do. I have been an army medic since 2010 and went to Germany. I finish in the summer of 2017. Nursing school is saving me. My husband was in a terrible four-wheeler accident a year ago and had a brain injury and he is a totally different person.  I am just 26 and we have only been married a few years. It sucks. It happened four days after our third anniversary and it was our happiest time and now it has completely changed. It’s not his fault but it looks like it will be like this forever. and I have realized I won’t be able to have kids and bring them into this. I had my first breakdown last week. We just passed the one year anniversary and I have had to be strong for him because he can’t deal with anything emotional. I have to be a psychiatrist 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Finally, I snapped and hit the bottom of the barrel. My dog is my shining light too. I want to escape into the woods for a while I am taking a mental health day to sit by the water. Getting through nursing school is going to be my shining moment and it gives me hope. I don’t want to look back at my life at 80 and be disappointed.”
