I played polo for 35 years, but I am getting older so I chose to umpire. I miss being in the game. I am from the Dominican Republic and saw polo there and I liked it. I rode horses since I was young. Playing polo gave me a better income and I loved the sport. It feels so good to ride. We are going 25-30 miles an hour and then stopping on a dime. It is not scary because we know what we are doing and have fully made horses who know what they are doing. The first time I left the Dominican Republic was to fly to England and be a groom there and it gave me an opportunity to play there. I live in Florida now and I umpire professionally. Polo got me out of the Dominican Republic. If it wasn’t for polo, I would be working the fields and living in a little corner somewhere. Now my life is nice.
