“Mobile Urban Growers is a network of community gardens and we partner with Feeding the Gulf Coast to prepare a plant-based meal once a quarter for low-income families. It is a sit-down meal with tablecloths and we teach about container gardening and growing your own food. We also encourage the homeless to pick and eat anything they want here. There are 15-20 urban gardens around Mobile. The Alabama Center for Contemporary Arts own this space and we bring in art and have more permanent garden pieces from behind the gardens. We are supposed to work here once a month, but it is usually more often. We are getting ready for Art Walk. The theme is May flowers and garden parties so we are beefing up the flowers. We are going to have edible flowers for Art Walk and make pressed flower cards with kids for Mother’s Day. Sarah Fischer is our artist of the month.”
