Why Be Sad When You Can Be Happy?

December 21, 2025

“I like to dress up and do this all of the time. I’m a member of the Prissy Peacocks. We are part of the Sweet Potato Queens. I give out stuff to strangers every year for Christmas. I gave out 30-something loaves of Amish bread already. I give out pencils, pens, and even jewelry to people at the gas stations, Walmart, and restaurants around Yazoo City. I also give out little stuff at Halloween and Valentines. It’s fun to do and makes somebody happy for just a few minutes. You never know what someone’s going through. If they’re in pain, they lost someone, or thinking about suicide, I like cheering somebody up, even if it’s for a few minutes. I’m going home and cooking more fudge and stuff to give away. I like baking and also give out banana bread. I make homemade candy from scratch like my grandma used to make in a cast-iron skillet.

I’ve done this for years. It makes me happy to see a smile on someone’s face when you give them something, even if it’s for a few minutes. Why be sad when you can be happy?”
