I never dreamed this would happen to me

“Police officer was not my passion at ten years old and I changed my mind many times when I was growing up. Law enforcement started when I worked as a dispatcher for three years There was something new every day, often with a rush of adrenaline. I sat in the dispatch room with no windows fixing things and helping people, and I loved it. I never knew when I answered that phone if all hell would break loose or if I would be able to help someone. I like making things better and realized I wanted to become a police officer. I was hired in Mobile and worked there for seven years. I moved into narcotics and vice and then into the investigative side. I was also on the violent crimes task force that worked with the FBI.  I had a 19-month-old at home and tried to get hired at Fairhope for four years before it finally happened.

I have been the Chief of Police in Fairhope for almost two months. I was the interim for four months. Five years ago, I never dreamed this would happen to me. But this job is amazing and I am so thankful God opened the door and gave me the opportunity. I prayed about what the city and department needed to move forward. My husband told me to go for it. He is also a police officer for the Daphne police department.
Fairhope has been good for me and I owe it so much. The mayor and the council have been good work with.  I can help bring people together in our department. We have big things coming and are growing and adding staff to keep up with the growth and potential of Fairhope. We are no longer a small department handling what comes at us, we are building a vision of where we need to go. We are specializing and becoming more proactive. The public can help us with little things like locking their car doors and their homes. You think a break-in won’t happen to you until it does. We have to work together because this is not my department, it is our department. I am here to serve the community.”
