“We had breakfast at Julwin’s and now we are chilling.”
“We do this at least once a week. Today we are talking about our children. They are 26, 21 and 16. My daughter lives close by and I worry about her being by herself. You still worry about them no matter how old they are. You worry about them when they are with you but I think we worry more when they are gone because we aren’t there to help them with things. My son is engaged and lives in Florida. I am making her wedding dress.”
“She makes costumes for the Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre. I say Respiratory. She recently did the costumes for Bye Bye Birdie.
“I designed all of the costumes and made most of them. It took about three months. Our next one coming up is James and the Giant Peach and that is a big one too. I am working on the designs for that right now. It is a lot of work but I love it. I have always wanted to do this and now that I have a chance to, it is fantastic. Growing up with the kids, I loved designing and making the costumes for anything the kids did. One of my favorites was designing costumes for favorite books and my son’s favorite book was about snakes. I made him a cobra costume and it looked so good that it amazed me. I didn’t know about the theater groups around here and thought maybe one day I could work for Joe Jefferson. I am in my 40’s, who knew that I would really start doing this?”
“She has always had that natural ability in her. She is alright for a girl.”
“We are tight and work together. We have been married 27 years.”
“It feels like 120.”
“I am going home to design. Seeing it on the stage is so emotional for me. To see it come together on stage and everything is something I made, breaks me down. I put so much work in it for so long. I have control issues sometimes because I want it exactly like I designed it and sometimes the fabric doesn’t exist. We live in a small house and I worked out of our bedroom, every surface of our kitchen and half of the living room. When son moved out in February, I got his room and have a studio now.”
“If I have a chair and a TV, I am happy.”
“I am a terrible procrastinator and put everything off until the last minute and then I am frantic. It is a year-round thing now.”
“I am a bartender at Big Daddy’s. I get to see the water all day. Bushwhackers are fun to make, but I don’t drink. I worked there for a long time and they asked me to do it. You have to like people. I learned that from my mom years ago. She was from Australia and worked at various gas stations around Fairhope. There was five of us and my dad left us because he didn’t want to do it anymore. She was a single mom raising five kids. She was a wonderful lady. She did a great job with no support. Never let us know how hard it was.”
“My name is Janna, but he called me Jenna for the first few years to make me crazy. His family called me that too.”
“If one of us is crazy, shouldn’t we make the other one crazy too?”

Haha! Thanks! Only thing is we’ve been married 27 years, not 20.
And we only have one daughter…Ha! I’m sure my other son will get a kick out of that.
I fixed that so rumors won’t get started.
