The thing that has brought me the most joy is meeting the music fans here and the friendships it is giving me

“I am rediscovering what I loved as a kid. As a music journalist, I have seen a lot of high points in music history. I was at Live Aid and around for the Athens music scene and the start of grunge in Seattle. I traveled on tours when I was younger. You get older and take on things you think will be the big highlight of your life, like starting a magazine, but it turns out things don’t work out and you have to regroup and find out where you fit in. I came back to Mississippi and lost both of my parents in one year, 5 years ago. They were highschool sweethearts. I didn’t fit into the family business so I didn’t go into that. The thing that has brought me the most joy is meeting the music fans here and the friendships it is giving me. It has become my new family. Some people wonder if I will ever grow up and grow out of covering music and seeing as many shows as I do or redevelop my career. No, I love what I do and I am going to enjoy it. I do anything I can to help promote this music scene. The best reward is to be at shows around the country and people ask about Callaghan’s or The Frog Pond.”
