A couple of weeks ago, I posted the story about riding around the Mississippi Delta with my mom and taking pictures. She has dementia and these rides are her adventures out of the house – it’s our favorite time together. The first years, we did a few Souls interviews. She can’t walk anymore but she smiles and laughs in the car with me. Dementia erased her memories, but not her love. I just opened a booth at Downtown Marketplace in Yazoo City with some of the photos I have taken on our rides. This booth is a love letter to Mama and my hometown. All of the proceeds will buy children’s books at the library in Yazoo City. Mama took us there all of the time to keep books in our hands.
Seeing all of the booths at Downtown Marketplace and meeting the owners Jet and Vernette Griffin is worth the drive to Yazoo. Jet will love on you from the moment you walk in and ring the bell if it’s your first time. Vernette takes care of you after that. This is one of those places where you walk out feeling better than when you walked in. I stop by every time I go back home.
