“We are looking for jobs. We just moved back from Panama City. My mom lives there. We were homeless in Fairhope last year and went to see if life was better in Florida. It didn’t work out there, so we are back here.”
“We were homeless together about six or seven months. We hopped from house to house, staying with friends and camped for a while. We ate McDonald’s, raman noodles, crackers, and water from the beach. We were 19 and 20. I grew up in a great family but my parents didn’t like what I did with my life and I started smoking. They kicked me out when I turned 18. She was living with us because we took her out of her crazy family situation. My car broke down three days after they kicked me out. She reconnected with her mom and we moved to Panama City. Things started to get back on track. We were both working but her mom and stepdad wanted to get their life back. My engine blew on the way back to Fairhope in Christmas Eve. Now I am without a car again. I have talked with my parents, but I am on my own and I have accepted that. I have to figure out life by myself, but life is very expensive. We have been walking around all day putting in applications. It would be easier if I had a car.”
“We are moving into an apartment next week. Hopefully, things will fall into place. We just need a job.”
“Our friendship has been strong. We have each other and will overcome it together.”
