“I moved here from Germany and I am working for Airbus in aircraft delivery. We have seen what kind of impact Airbus has had on the area and it is nice to be welcomed with open arms. It isn’t the same everywhere. Airbus is here to stay and Mobile deserves this. My wife and I moved to Fairhope in October last year and we don’t regret it. We can watch the sunset every day and drive a few minutes and be paddling in the bay. I am from Hamburg and the summer is from the end of June to the beginning of July. We have a lot of rain. I am enjoying every day here and the people have made it easy. They are welcoming and interested. Everyone is open for a little chat, they don’t look away like they do in big cities. I have picked up fishing and bringing the dog to the bay. It is insane how close it is to the beach. It is the first time that I have lived in a small town and I don’t miss the city. There in five minutes means there in five minutes. In Germany, Alabama is not as known as the other touristy states. Friends in the US raised their eyebrows when we told them we were moving here. They couldn’t understand it. Now we are telling everyone they need to come down here for a few days. The question is will it retain its charm. It is good to have conversations and planning before it is too late. It is dark in Hamburg starting in October and you don’t want to get out in the cold rain and slush. The weather affects mind and soul. Here I am more energetic and positive. We send pictures of the sunset to friends and family at home. It is not bragging, but I want to share our joy of living here and the nice weather.”
