“I have a boy and two girls. I just finished with nursing school. It was rough going to school and working because I couldn’t spend time with my kids like I wanted to, but I finished last Thursday and I graduate in two weeks. That is unreal. I have been going to school since 2014 and I thank God I am done. It has been a struggle. I got out of high school and had my first daughter and then had two more kids and then started school. I am raising them on my own but my mom and dad have helped. I was working a full-time job but had to cut my hours and my aunt and my parents helped me pay my bills during this. I couldn’t have done it without them. There were days I was coming home and thought I wouldn’t make it. My kids acted out because I couldn’t be at school or go on field trips and I couldn’t leave school to check on them. In September, I couldn’t hang on much longer and talked to my pastor. He told me I only had two months left, I had better push it through so I pushed and pushed. I came home from school and had to cook and clean and wash and help with homework. Then I had tests and computer sheets of my own to do. I would go to bed at 3 or 4 in the morning and get back up at 5 and get everyone ready for school. I had to drink energy drinks to stay awake in class. The last two weeks, I was getting an hour of sleep a night because I was staying up all night studying for tests. If I went to sleep, I would fail the test. I thank God I made it through. We started out with 40 people and only about 20 of us are still standing. I guess it will hit when I walk on that stage. I had a lot of people tell me I wouldn’t be able to go to school with three kids. Those same people are asking me now how to get in. I will start picking my hours up at work and it will be easy to get a job as a nurse. I want to work in a hospital and go back and get my practitioner degree. Later I want to have a business that hires sitters. I am about to make up for the time I didn’t have with my kids. I am going to go on the field trips and help in their class. We are going to Disney World next year. After I work and save some money, I am going to buy a us a house. It is about to pay off.”
